Good morning! If you celebrate it, then I hope that you had a safe and peaceful Christmas. We spent Christmas Day at home with the children (and partners), and then traveled to spend the day with other family members yesterday. This morning I feel very grateful.
I’ll be spending the next few days, cleaning the house, using up all the leftovers and generally getting ready for 2014.
New Year is my favourite time of the year and I can’t wait to keep up the attack on our financial goals.
Back tomorrow with a budget for January.

Hello! Today I’d originally planned to talk about goals and such, after all it’s getting towards that time of the year, but instead I thought it might be a good idea if I reflected a little on this year and did a little blog housekeeping.
If you read this site on a bookmark (and not through a reader service) you’ll know that the template has changed a thousand times this year. Annoying I know, I’m sorry. I’m in the middle of fixing a few issues and tidying everything up, but the template will not be changing again.Thank you for sticking you me.
The template changes have been a reflection of exactly how I’ve felt all year – which is very unsettled! And being unsettled has filtered through into all aspects of my life including blogging (both here (which is mainly a site about our finances) and over at Move to Portugal (which is more about my daily life). I even considered shutting down one site, but I’ve been too indecisive to choose which one – lol!
Anyway. My Dad is doing a lot better (the reason I’ve been unsettled), and 2014 is on its way. What’s not to love about the start of a New Year. It’s the perfect time to re-energize your focus.
Here’s to a fantastic debt kicking/net worth building 2014 for all of us
Good morning! No grocery haul photos this week – I took some but deleted them in error! It wasn’t a very exciting shop anyway, more stockpiling (yes, I’m back to that!), than anything else.
I’ll come back to stockpiling in another post, but since we now have built in pantry shelving (and an extra shelving unit in another cupboard), it’ll pay us to start using them properly……and never pay the full price for anything that keeps.
Menu planning is quite simple this week as we’re away until Thursday evening. My husband is working in the Dorset area and it makes sense for me to accompany him – Yay! – it’s free accommodation close to a beach, so I wasn’t going to turn that down, although I will need to be frugal with my spending! ;)
Friday: Chicken Burito Bowls
Sunday: Breakfast for dinner
Okay that’s it for today as we’ve off down the motorway. Have a lovely day – back tomorrow with a few photos….hopefully! :)
If you read my other site then you’ll know that we have a few big changes afoot. The main one being: we’re moving house! We haven’t quite decided on the whole sell or rent dilemma yet – we’re probably going to market to sell for a short time to see if there’s any interest……if there’s not, then we’ll put the house up for rent – but either way making large over payments on the mortgage is on hold for now
This of course affects all of our short (and long) term goals as everything is up in the air right now. And perhaps explains a little why I’m all over the place with my focus right now. I’m so goal driven and the changes are really playing with my head!
We still have a few repair jobs to get done around the home (and I’ve already started to get quotes), but I have a deadline day of October 1st in my head, so I need to get moving on everything. Quickly!
This weekend we’re hoping to get the (neglected) areas on the perimeter of our house tidied up. We have a few planted beds that need a very big clear out…as well as a path. We’re now wishing we hadn’t ignored them for so long before! Photos to follow!
What are you up to this weekend?
