Thanks Mrs Thrifty and Hi!

I must admit my son moving out - he's 21 and eats a lot too - has made a big difference to our food spending. My daughter eats well but not really between meals so things don't really disappear from the cupboards all the time (like they did before!)
I think with just the three of us at home I can keep to £50 a week, when B. is home from uni it won't be so easy.

Well done to you - we also have 3 adults and 1 extra during university holidays (sure they weren't this long when I went!!) and have been aiming at £240 per month, but hoping to reduce that further. Last year we were spending between £100 and £150 per week, particularly before Number 2 moved out, so have already reduced substantially, but work still to do.The boys (17 and 19) eat a lot (very tall and very thin and always very hungry). £212.01 so far this month.... mmmmm - not sure I'll make it this month but we shall see.

Wow, I nearly fell over at the prices! 34p for a box of tea?! No wonder my brother was complaining about the prices here on his visit at Christmas. I can't imagine staying under $50 for a week (and it's just me in the household serving 3 cats), but it just means I need to do a lot more cooking out of the cupboards. It's not like I don't have the food, I just don't make the time or plan what I'm going to have. I'm lazy like that. Good luck with your goal - I'm enjoying following along!

Hi Juhli, yes I include everything. Though I only buy vinegar, baking soda etc for cleaning, so don't spend too much there. Only paper product is toilet roll.
I'm going to keep persevering with it by cutting out a lot more processed food and see how it goes. :)

Do you include non-food items bought at the supermarket? We include food, toiletries, household paper & cleaning goods, and alcohol in our budget. What I have found is I have trouble keeping that below $125 a week. I had hoped to lower it to $110 a week without impacting our lifestyle much. There are two of us eating. I think your budget converts to about $77 a week and I would have great difficulty eating well on that.

I went grocery shopping last night and spent too much. I thought I was only going to spend around $20, but ended up spending $80. I should be good for awhile though.
