Over the coming weeks I plan to share with you how we use the storage in our small apartment. I hope to show you everything (even the less than pretty things like this wardrobe).

The Storage Wardrobe:
When we moved in back in July practically the first thing we did was purchase two wardrobes from Ikea. One of the wardrobes is used for clothing, and the other for travel and golf paraphernalia* (+ extra coats). Over the last few months the latter had become a dumping ground for anything and everything, and so last weekend I reorganised it.

I removed, among other things, shoes, a small TV and 15 wooden hangers. Clearing this stuff out also gave me the added bonus of room in the wardrobe for our Christmas decorations! Woo! These were previously kept under our bed and I’m trying to avoid putting things under there as much as possible. Of course I still have the de-cluttered items to deal with, but at least the wardrobe is sorted.

Organise a Storage Wardrobe

(I’m yet to decide if this ^ is too much luggage – we use it all, so perhaps not?!)

travel items

Inside the large suitcase on the shelf is a cabin case full of our travel items – wash bags, packing cubes, money belt, beach wear etc. Keeping it all in one place makes everything a lot simpler when it comes to packing.

*I should mention that when we were considering moving to a small apartment (with no storage), the ‘where shall we store your golf clubs?’ question came up a lot. Haha! At least we found somewhere! ;)

Bathroom Revamp

We’re approaching the 6 month anniversary of living in our new home, and to date progress on the revamp has been very slow…..all we’ve really done is add shelving to the laundry cupboard, and that room still needs work!

Anyway it’s a New Year and one of my goals is to get the whole apartment to do list completed by the end of the summer – 2015!! It shouldn’t be too hard a task – the to-do list is short, and the apartment is small – but if past performance is anything to go by, then I’ll need keep the procrastination at bay!

On the to-do list there are two major jobs – one is updating the kitchen, and the other is replacing (most) of the master bathroom. The bathroom doesn’t look too bad in photos^ – we’ll be trying to keep the sink and toilet – but the bath leaks, the shower doesn’t work properly and the flooring is not fixed to the floor!

Replacing a bathroom is new territory for us – one we’ll have to hire out – but I’m looking forward to getting it done and having a room that’s fully usable in the very near future.

I’ll be sharing the progress as we go along, including the budget for the project once I have an idea of the numbers, so check back soon for that. In the mean time we’re about to start working on the bedrooms. They’re a simple job compared to the bathroom, and I hope to have a progress report on them very soon.

I woke up at 6am this morning and by half past the decorations were all boxed up! This happens every year, as I love to get everything back to normal on New Years Day.

The box of decorations ^ + a red robin is everything we decorated with this year. We didn’t have a tree – baubles went in bowls instead – after giving it away during our move. If anyone is interested in how we store things in our small home, this box + the robin, are kept under a bed in a storage bag. It’s not ideal but it works for now.

cleaning at the sink

I also took the opportunity to wash a few decorative objects and tidy up my plants as everything seemed really dusty.

Ok, that’s enough about cleaning! I’m off to catch up on my blog reading. Have a lovely rest of the day.
