At the end of 2011 I stopped using cash jars for our miscellaneous expenses, deciding to go back to using a combination of debit and credit cards. However (starting in May) I’ve decided to go back to them – I’m not altogether sure why I’m going back to them, it just feels right.
Anyway I like to keep my grocery spending money separate from everything else – and in my handbag – so I treated myself to one of Carla’s lovely wallets
And here it is, all the way from Canada:
| Carla is so talented. I wouldn’t know where to begin to make anything like this. |
I love the camper van stamps too…
More to come on my return to cash budgeting in May.
PS.This weekend the little wallet is going back on its travels across the ocean as it’s perfect to keep my GBP in while I’m on holiday and using dollars. For fun next week I’m thinking of making the wallet famous with a ‘wallet photo series’…wallet on the Brooklyn Bridge, wallet at the Guggenheim etc…or is it just me who thinks that would be funny!?!

Sometimes you just have to do what feels right. My mom always said that you should “go with your gut” and so far it’s been good advice
Yes – that’s exactly how I feel about going back to ‘cash’ no reason for it, just a gut feeling. Mum’s are wise
I love the wallet travel photo series idea! A cute way to document your trip.
It would be fun to do
No, I think that would be funny to, I can’t wait to see the wallets adventures! Although be careful when you put it down to take the photo!!
Sometimes it’s best to use cash, you do find you’re more careful when you are actually handing over those hard earned pennies!!
Sue xx
Good point Sue! And I like ‘wallet adventures’ – would be funny…although hubby may think I’ve finally lost it!
I just got one of Carla’s wallets too! I LOVE it! Can’t wait to hear all about your cash plan!
They are SO cute!
Sounds very sensible to me because you can’t over-spend! I love the idea of the wallet’s travel – perhaps we could get Carla’s readers to photograph their purchases all over the world!! xx
Yes, we should…very funny
I don’t think a cash diet is for me, but I can definitely understand how beneficial it would be for some people. Good luck!
It took me months to get used to a cash budget system…and then I stopped using it. But now I feel like it’s the best way for me.
Link to Carla’s wallets? Have a great trip!
Hi Justine thank you!
I’ve added the custom order page to the post
I would prefer cash, I like the envelope system, but DH spends more with cash than with a debit card. also thats great that your monthly expenses are reduced to 1000, thats a great idea for a goal to aim for.
My hubby prefers dc/cc but I think I spend less using cash.
Go for it. I want to see wallets adventures lol
I’m wondering what I’ve started now lol
Love the greys in your wallet Laura!
Looking forward to hearing about it’s travels. What a great idea.
Sft x
The colours are perfect for me – I love greys and blacks!
Wow, that made its way to you really fast!
I would love to see where this little wallet visits! Thanks again, Laura!!
No thank you – I love it!
I’d love to see the wallet’s travels too
I’m planning on getting one of Carla’s wallets too – as soon as I can manage to put some money aside for it. Maybe that should be a goal of mine?!
I’m really trying to use cash now but I only manage a few of the bills so it’s easier with them. We collect Frequent Flyers points on our amex card but I only use that for medical expenses and groceries.
I feel good about going back to cash. I would like to use cards as little as possible.
how lovely a holiday you deserve it you are so focused with your goals. I would like to be I think it would take me about 10 years to save for a holiday!I would love to go to cape cod/New england. maybe one day x x have a lovely time & look forward to see the wallet photos
Thank you. Cape Cod/New England sounds wonderful – start saving, even if it’s a small amount xx
Hope you have a wonderful time on your trip, and I’d love to see the wallet’s travels!
Thanks Fiona – wallet adventures coming up!
I think that’s a great idea!! I have one of Carla’s wallets too – I keep my receipts in it each month. Happily Carla and I live in the same city so I was able to purchase a lovely Peter Rabbit baby set recently. Look forward to seeing where your wallet travels to!!
