Grocery Spending #1 {March 2012)

It's my goal to keep our grocery spending below £2,600 (£50 per week, £216.67 per month) for 2012. We are three adults and one extra during school holidays.

Here we go then the start of a new month and another new grocery budget. This month I've set the target at £185, which, when I think about it, doesn't seem a lot. We have a lot going on this month, so we shall see how it goes.

Here's what I bought today, pretty much a basics shop, which I'll need to top up with meat, produce and fresh items over the next 31 days.

Grocery Budget:
Target £185.00

Total spending: £53.32
Budget remaining: £131.68

I've menu planned the whole month again (much easier this time), and the meals over the next few days are using up what we already have in the freezer. Then next week I'll buy fresh meat, do a little batch cooking, and stock back up again.

Okay that's it today. Have a great day and I'll be back tomorrow with a 2012 financial goals update . :)

  1. I do the same; meal plan for the month, one big shop and then fresh-food top-ups. I had to buy groceries yesterday (29th) and was tempted to "charge" them to my March budget, but didn't :)

    1. I nearly went shopping on Wednesday too, but managed to hold off until Thursday.

  2. Good going! I see a lot of coffee in there :) Those bake in the oven baguettes last so much longer than regular bread

  3. I just ran the currency converter - that *is* a really challenging goal! I did my first-ever Monthly Shop yesterday and was thrilled at the savings possible when buying in bulk/specials. Good luck for this month!

  4. I am also trying to pare down the March food budget. Mostly to compensate for going on vacation!

  5. I always go over on my food budget due to my MIL's love of a chocolate biscuit with her tea and The Foxx and I love a glass of wine.
I am impressed with how little you spend on food, which shows that organisation pays dividends.....

    1. Hi Maureen - I hardy ever buy alcohol and it really keeps my spending down. Not that I don't love a glass of wine every now and again! ;)
