Wrapping Up February Grocery Spending & Menu Plan Monday

I've finalised our grocery spending for February and I'm (very) pleased to report that we spent £152.90. Yes, it's over my budget of £150, but wow! This is the lowest my grocery spending has EVER been for a month and I can't quite believe it. It can be done. Yay! Can you tell how pleased I am? We can eat healthily and keep to a fairly tight (for us) budget. Now to see what we can do in March. :)

On our menu this week:

  • Chicken Curry, Rice and Naan
  • Chili, Nachos and Sour Cream
  • Cheesy Pasta Bake
  • Baked Salmon and Veggies
  • Sausage Dogs with Onions
  • Fish Pie and Veggies

Just six meals this week as we're out for a family dinner on Saturday night.

Grocery plans for March are to make a month long meal plan, do one big supermarket shop (for a cupboard and freezer refill) and then make 3/4 smaller grocery runs throughout the month. I'm setting the budget at £185 to allow for the longer month and the extra entertaining I will be doing (family visits).

Have you closed out your February grocery budget yet? If so, how did you do?

  1. Congratulations! It is hard to keep spending down in this area once I work through what is in the pantry and freezer as it all has to be replace eventually. Good luck in March and I am interested to hear how you like planning a month of menus and doing a giant shop.

    1. Hi Sue, the monthly planning works even better than the weekly planning...perhaps I should plan a year's worth of menu's?! ;)

    1. Hi Donna - I make a very rough version of this using up fish I have - if made exactly to recipe this fish pie is gorgeous.

  4. Awesome, great job on having the least spending month!! We are pretty much done with our February grocery budget too. Just need to pick up a gallon of milk tonight, and we are all set.

But menu planning is such a huge help, I'll need to get right onto mine.....

  7. I was £5.35 over, coming in at £105.35 for the 3 of us. I found that menu planning for the month made it much easier too. It's comforting to know that even on a tight budget you have all you need to feed yourself for a month.
