Grocery Spending #1 {February 2012}

It's my goal to keep our grocery spending below £2,600 (£50 per week, £216.67 per month) for 2012. We are three adults and one extra during school holidays. I'm trying to eat healthily and lose weight, as well as move further towards a more local/organic diet.

Okay so this month I'm trying to keep my grocery spending under £150 as part of Carla's February Low (No) Spend Challenge
Up until today I'd only spent £7.49 as we've been eating from our cupboards but things were starting to look very bare, especially the fridge, so I organised a food delivery for today. I spent £52.24, which includes the £3 delivery charge - I'd taken cash out of the bank for grocery this month, so I'm going to have to put that amount back in as I paid on my debit card!

Grocery Spending:

  • £6.00 1kg Organic Mince Beef
  • £2.15  6 Organic Pork Sausages
  • £5.50 600g Salmon
  • £1.65 20 Sausages
  • £0.64 2 x Garlic Baguettes
  • £1.29 2 x Naan Bread
  • £1.38 2 x Wholemeal Loaf
  • £1.30 Frozen Broccoli
  • £1.00 Hash Browns
  • £1.00 Rustic Oven Chips
  • £1.79 4 x Tomato Soup
  • £1.69 Organic Milk
  • £0.49 Yogurt
  • £3.00 2 x Juice
  • £2.85 Organic Spread
  • £1.99 Organic Blueberries
  • £1.00 Bananas
  • £1.00 Organic Onions
  • £1.00 Organic Carrots
  • £4.00 Organic Apples
  • £4.49 Coffee
  • £0.63 500ml Family Shampoo
  • £3.40 Personal Products
  • £3.00 Delivery

Total Cost £52.34
Grocery Spending February £59.73/£150

Tomorrow I plan on making a Bolognese sauce and a Chilli with the mince - I'll use one portion of Chilli for Friday, and everything else will go in the freezer (in portions). There should be enough to make 5/6 meals.

So with three weeks to go I have £90.27 of my budget left. Think I can do it? I hope so :)

Are you trying to lower your grocery spending this month? If so, let me know how you're doing.

  2. You seem very organised and I'm sure you will do it. We're trying to reduce our food spend this month but not as low as your managing on.

    1. Thanks Karen - hubby being away is the big factor, it's making such a difference to my budget. I'd much prefer him at home though! :)

  4. I have 75p left out of my £100 budget to last me until 23rd February. My milk stock may run out, in which case I'll go over by a fraction. The cupboards and freezer look much as they did when I photographed them before I started this on 26th January. I take a small amount of something out of the freezer, but a lot more seems to go back in by the time I've made meals with it!

    1. I keep reading literature on food...and it's scary so I'm doing my best to buy as much organic as I can - I would prefer local but it's been too difficult without transport (hubby away with car!).

    1. I'm sure that's a missed opportunity for your supermarkets Juhli - even though you have to pay a delivery charge, it's a really helpful service.
