January No (Low) Spend Challenge Update #2

My No (Low) Spend Challenge is going really well, and up until now I've managed to avoid any personal spending at all this month, but it's about to end as I have to post a parcel to my son.

When he went back to university after the holidays he left a few t-shirts behind and he 'needs' them, so I promised to send them to him. To save on costs I turned a clothing shop carrier bag (very strong) inside out to use as a posting bag.  I've also avoided further spending by writing thank you letters (for Christmas gifts) instead of buying Thank You cards - the letters seemed much nicer anyway and I'm going to do that again. Luckily I had stamps in my purse.

For entertainment we've taken advantage of our free for January film subscription - so far we've watched Larry Crowne and The Switch - however there's no chance of hubby getting bored at all this month as there's lots of football (NFL, College and Soccer), on the TV! I've been keeping busy with a little de-cluttering and sorting out. And walking. Lots of walking! I don't like it, but I've been forcing myself!

How's your No (Low) Spend Challenge going? Is it making you resourceful?

  1. Me? Well, I've decided to switch a couple or rooms around and give one a new purpose so that is taking up all of my time right now, and bike riding of course:)

  2. you are doing great so far!!! keep it up.... I have been meaning to start my decluttering in my bedroom but I just have been too busy so far this week & haven't had time to get it started! EEK! There are still a few more days left ;)

  3. Good stuff! I had to pick up a few groceries this morning, so today wasn't a no-spend say for us, but a lower spend day at least! :)

  4. I'm right there with you with the walking! I don't like it, but I've been doing it every day. I have gotten my daily steps up from around 3000 to over 7000, so am making progress. I think what I need though is better weather!

  5. @Jane moving rooms around will definitely keep you busy!
    @jp - once you start these jobs they seem to escalate...but it will keep you busy :)
    @Carla - lower spend is GOOD! :)
    @laura - I totally agree....I imagine myself walking in the warmth of Portugal and try to ignore the cold UK weather!

  7. Resourceful is a great word for this challenge. I'm very conscious of the cash I'm spending and I'm pleased to say it's working! I'll be doing a full update on Friday...

    You are doing great! No personal spending? wow! and it's almost the middle of the month! Love the idea of writing letters vs. thank you cards!

    1. I'd got into the (bad) habit of automatically buying thank you cards - letters are much cheaper and more personal :)
