My financial goal for the challenge:
- To add another £250 from our regular budget to our monthly mortgage overpayment
How?
- By keeping our grocery spending below £150 (Usual £216.67)
- By not spending the £168.37 usually budget for water and council tax (no payments this month)
- By keeping my personal spending below £65 (Usual £80)
The big challenge will be keeping the grocery spending low again, but it's a short month and hubby will be away for 5/6 nights which makes it a little easier. I've done a store cupboard/freezer inventory today (I took pictures for another post!), and I'll be menu planning and using up as much stuff as I can over the coming weeks.
On March 1st I'm hoping to get our mortgage below six figures for the first time and this is my carrot!!
Are you joining the challenge? If so, what goals do you have?

Hi Laura
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your March goal, we made under the six figures last year and it was so exciting!
Maria
Hi Maria thank you and congratulations! :)
DeleteI haven't set goals yet, but i think mine will be similar to January = just actually sticking to our monthly budget would be a giant improvement for us. Also, no shopping for clothes, shoes, makeup, keeping our eating out and groceries under control, etc.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
DeleteI love the sound of that carrot Laura! Wow!
ReplyDeleteI am joining this part of the challenge too and I think I might copy you and blog about it tonight.
Thanks for getting me organised!
Sft x
It's a BIG carrot sft!!
DeleteI'm looking forward to the challenge again :)
Good Luck with everything! And keep us updated.
ReplyDeleteThanks fariha! Are you joining us? :)

Good luck with the challenge Gill and getting that mortgage paid off! :)
DeleteThat's more like carrot CAKE!! If you stay within 150lb for food you'll be my hero!!
ReplyDeleteDon't mention cake lol - I haven't had any all week..and it's my weakness ;)
DeleteI'm not sure if I'll make it - but will try :)
Love your goal! Excited to see how you do this month! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Carla and thank you (again) for the inspiration! :)
DeleteGood for you! I like your use of a "carrot", haha... I'm joining too, but since I'm off for a mini vacation I'm hoping to not "accidentally" overspend... sometimes my wallet has a bad habit of getting the better of me!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah - I need a carrot lol, or I might falter!
DeleteEnjoy Toronto :)
Thanks for the good luck message. I'm joining in without realising! £100 per month for all our shopping needs and trying to sell some things on ebay. I hope the ebaying goes well - it could prove to be a way to give our income a much needed small boost.
ReplyDeleteHi Scarlet - good luck with your eBaying. Love your shopping page - it's really helpful :)
DeleteThis is one challenge I have to miss out on as we are moving house, but after the move......well....I'll get down to some serious frugality then and following your lead, (I've been reading some of your old posts) I'll be getting rid of even more stuff to add money to our savings.
ReplyDeleteSue xx
Hi Sue - It looks like we'll be having lots of challenges this year, it'll be great if you can join one after your move:)
DeleteI'm in! Great idea x
ReplyDeleteYay - welcome to the challenge!
DeleteYou are rocking it Laura!!! I am in awe of you! I will be doing the de-cluttering challenge.
ReplyDeleteAwww thank you Lisa . Good luck with de-cluttering! :)
