January No (Low) Spend Challenge

January is a great month to do a 'No Spend Month' or even a 'Low Spend Month' and so when Carla announced her challenge I didn't hesitate to sign up. What a great way to start 2012, by attacking your financial goals from the outset!

You make your own rules and goals for the challenge (Carla's are here with all the participants), depending on what you'd like to achieve.

My rules:
  • No miscellaneous spending at all (I normally have a budget of £80)
  • Keep the grocery budget below £180 (Normal budget £216.67)

We have to pay our annual telephone line rental bill in January and I'd like to soak up that cost by reducing other spending.

If you're doing the challenge, good luck, I can't wait to see how we all do!

  2. good luck with your goals . I wish we could overpay our mortgage each month. Perhaps one day when I am full of beans & can work more hours & do so then!.
You are super good on your menu planning. I would like to do that starting in the new year xx

  4. I'm doing the challenge, too. I'm excited about it. You are paying so much toward your mortgage. Good for you! We're hoping to get our mortgage paid off in 2012 so we can build a house.

  5. Hi Laura: yes, I'm joining in the No/Low Spend month and have a modest goal of increasing my EF from $1700 to $2000 which means saving an extra $200 plus my usual deposit of $100. I don't feel any "shopping" urges so hopefully I can do it.
Good luck with your goal of absorbing an annual cost into your monthly budget!!
