Five Financial Goals for 2011

1) Save £6k in cash for our move abroad in 2012.  Achieving this goal requires a saving of £500 a month and to do this I cannot fail goal number two.

2) Spend no more than £230 on grocery every month.  As long as I stick with menu planning this will be achievable.

3) Reduce our mortgage by £6k.  Normal monthly payments will make a reduction of approximately £5.3k so we will need to find another £700 in extra income to achieve this goal.

4) Fully fund New York Travel Fund - £5k.  All the previous money I've saved towards this goal has been spent on house repairs, so I'm starting from scratch.  To achieve this goal I will need to get creative!

5) Pay for and finish house renovations - £2.5k.  New windows and general repairs.

I'm going to give these goals their own page and will report our progress every month.

  4. Good luck with your goals.

I'm finding it diffuicult to stay within my grocery budget. Of course I have a teenage son who never stops eating so that could be part of the reason.

  6. Ah, great idea...2011 Goals...I'll still be working on my "Spend Less Year", but I should come up with some 2011 goals too! How do you manage on 230 a month on groceries (I guess I'm not sure how much that is in American dollars..) but it seems low!

  9. Jane: Thanks!

Sharon: £230 is about $360 for 4 of us. Most nights, for dinner I'm feeding 3, as hubby or one of the kids is not home. I'll do a post on grocery budgets to explain what I do a bit more, although I'm no expert! :-)

  11. I am still trying to narrow down my goals for 2011. Bulking up my short term and long term emergency funds is at the top of the list, though.
