The challenge:
My current budget, for 4 people, is set around the £250 {$390} mark and I'm going to try and reduce it to £230 {$360}without sacrificing our food quality; I know I could do a lot more with beans and pulses.So how did I do? Overall I spent £238.45, just over my target, which I'm quite pleased with. I'm moving my budget dates around this month as it''s too confusing budgeting from the 18th to the 17th all the time. I'm moving to whole monthly budgeting and so from 1st October to the 31st October my grocery budget will be £230. I'm also thinking about looking a menu planning the whole month [again] more to come on this next week.
My budget runs from 18th - 17th monthly, so starting next week I'll be reporting my grocery spending alongside my menu plan.
This week's menu plan taking in to account our different working patterns:
Monday: Lasagne & Salad
Tuesday: Pizza & Salad
Wednesday: Chilli, Rice and Sour Cream
Thursday: Chicken Stir Fry
Friday: Vegetable Curry {in freezer}
Saturday: Dinner at family
Sunday: Beef/Mushroom Burgers, Homemade Wedges & Salad

Snap Monday night is Lasagna night in our house as well. I am finding planning my menus in advance a little trickier for two reasons. My Mother-in-Law is back from holiday and hates the idea of me planning the menus. I am also on a diet so what I have for dinner and what hubby and MIL have could be two different things. Food can often break the budget, so I,m going to continue fighting for my menu plans.
ReplyDeleteI find food the main thing that can break my budget, so you're right to keep fighting for them Maureen :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm always impressed by your target. My spending is usually at least £50 a month more than that!!
