Haircuts, how much do you spend?

I'm booked in for a haircut next month which, with a tip, is going to cost me £35...much more than I used to pay when I was working!

I made the mistake, when I finally got a good hair cut in April, of getting a style that is higher maintenance than my usual shortish crop; my fringe was left a lot longer and styled across my face and because my hair grows quickly, I'm forever putting it behind my ears; it looked really nice in the beginning, but now it looks messy.

So, I'm either going to go back to the salon this time, pay the £35, get my hair cropped short again and not make another appointment there; or I'm going to cancel the appointment and look for a cheaper place to get my hair cropped.

Do you think £35 is a reasonable amount, or do you get your hair cut for a lot less than this? I'd love to hear your what you do :-)

  1. I presume this included a blow-dry too! It does sound a little expensive but I suppose it varies depending on where you live and how 'classy' the salon is. The last time I had my hair done it cost about £45 including a cut, colour, blow-dry and tip. I occasionally do the colour myself but I'm so rubbish at it, it ends up needing to be done again alot sooner!

  2. I am a shocker I only ever have my hair cut around once a year and in between I let it grow until I get sick of it and then it,s back to the Hairdressers, at the moment I am growing it longer as I want to have an upstyle for my Daughters wedding. I don,t think $35.00 is too much to spend if you are happy with the stylist, because finding one that you feel comfortable with is half the battle.

  3. I have no idea what the going rate is over in the UK. It varies widely here in the states.

I pay $55 for a cut/style while my family in the Midwest pay at least $20 less.

  4. Haircut prices do seem to vary; perhaps I should use clippers like my husband! lol

  5. I used to get mine free from a friend at hairdressing school. I think I could still go back there and get freebies or cheapies from other students, but I don't quite feel right about it. I've found an awessome place that charges $25 and they're all Asian, score! (I figure they'll understand my hair).

I didn't realise tipping was done in Europe too?

  6. This is a sticky one for me...I need a haircut desperately! I do cut my husband's hair though, so that saves a little.

  7. I pay about $50 for wash/cut/style, plus tip. At most salons here in Dallas you'll pay $45-$75 for this service.
