No spending for me

I don't have any room in my personal budget for spending over the next few months. If I want to be debt free in 2009 I need to be really strict with myself or I will be carrying some debt into the new year and I really don't want that. I have big changes planned for 2010 and they can't happen if I have debt, so I'm going into super frugal mode.

I've been in super frugal mode before and it can really kick start debt repayment.

I like the ideas in this post from All Doors Considered which I'm going to use, along with the following -

  • Do a car boot sale (like a yard sale, but in a field) to make a little extra cash
  • Cook from our store cupboard twice a week to reduce grocery bills

What things do you do that are super frugal?

Thanks for the mention!

Good luck. I had a great, FREE weekend. More later.

I'm doing the envelope system with the two areas I tend to go over my limit on. I am also trying to increase money in by looking for some extra summer work.

Good for you - we do the envelope system & we also cook everything from scratch - no prepackaged convenience foods for us! :) Shop only the sales :)

I need to jump back on the wagon so to speak --- I would love to pay off a bit more this year & I just have not had it in me these past few months - I think I have been lazy. But I would love to get back & get to super frugal & get things paid off - dd starts kindergarten & I have been told that 'school years' are pretty expensive. then adding college on top -- I surely need to get my butt in gear!!!

jpkittie, you cook everything from scratch? That is really cool and disciplined.

Super frugal mode, huh? Well, I think its great because you're going to be debt free real soon. And with summer being around... potlucks always prove a lot of fun. :)

We have been eating from the garden more, and cooking less expensive meals. I try to make more meals that feed our family for $2 for all 7 of us instead of those that cost $5 for all of us. I've been mending clothes so that my husband and I still have something to wear. Recently, someone gave us some curtains that she had hanging in her old house that she just moved from. I used some of them to make a dress for my daughter (I don't have pictures up yet but I will soon). The dress is beautiful, and I didn't have to buy her a new dress.

I picked peaches and apricots from a woman who was not going to use all that her trees produced. My family is enjoying the fresh fruit, and I am canning the rest of it (including some as baby food for the child who will be born next year).

Waves at NMS ! Thanks for stopping by :)
I'm back and ready to change my world for the better.
Look at you - you must be so proud of what you have acheived, finishing line in sight ?
Got to catch up on loads, but safe to say I'm doing okay.

I've been trying, but it's been hard. With two kids in school and their end of school expenses make it difficult to not spend.

One thing I have done in my No Spend month is plan frugal meals and not eat out. I believe I've saved at least $500.00 by doing this alone! Next month I'm going to tackle the utility bills!

I look foward to following your frugality! :)

I'm back on my £5 a day limit - it really is the best way for me to curb my spending.

Very jealous of The Prudent Homemaker who is growing her own. Sadly in a second floor flat, that's not so easy for me. Next year, I think I should invest in some window boxes.
