Motivation for making extra money

My motivation level for making extra money is extremely high at the moment, maybe it's the New Year and the fact that in a few months I could be debt free, so I'm capitalising on it while I can and working really hard.

I set myself a target of £2,000 for 2009, but I'm changing it to £2,009 in 2009, it sounds better! Anyway, so far in January I've generated £208.75 in extra income. This has come from Amazon sales, a small job for my business, a little interest payment and blog income.

I started to market my small business a little and it worked, I got a small paying job. I've also started a series on my other blog, that is directly linked to my small business and this should help with exposure. It's something I love doing so it has double rewards, I would organise anything for free, I love it so much.

I'm keeping all this money in my e-saver account until I decide where to allocate it. I'm using any extra money I earn for anything I need to pay for above my budget which only gives me £10 a month for a haircut. Extreme!

What ways are you making extra money this year?

  1. You love organizing? We're definitely opposites, I fear my desk would give you a heart attack! For extra money - I work overtime at work, do the silly online surveys and research, and I might try selling some necklaces and bracelets on etsy. I haven't made any money blogging, maybe 2009 will be better. I think that requires readers though....

  2. I love organizing too!!! :)

And when you have debt as your single focus, it's easier to make money..

  3. I sell on eBay and Amazon, do online surveys, Mystery Shopping, and work several part time jobs. It keeps me busy, but it does work. Extra money is possible! I like your 2009 goal!

  4. Nice work, that's 10% of your goal already!

I do online surveys, but I really need to kick my ebay selling into gear this year, ther is way too much clutter in my flat!

  8. Babysitting. I'm 51 years old and babysitting. But I make $10 to $15 an hour doing it, compared to the 75 cents to $1 an hour I earned back when I was a kid.
I'm a full-time student and manage an apartment building, and also write the Smart Spending blog for MSN Money, so I'm very, very busy. But babysitting fits in every now and then because the kids are usually in bed by 8 p.m. and I spend the rest of the evening doing what I'd be doing anyway -- homework and course reading. The difference is I'm getting PAID to do it.
And I really do like my young charges. I consider it "timeshare grandchildren." Spending time with young kids is energizing, in an exhausting sort of way.
I always tell people I'm the best babysitter ever because:
    1. I drive myself to and from jobs.
    2. I never turn on the TV, but I do play board games and read stories.
    3. I straighten up the living room, unload the dishwasher and fold laundry.
    4. And I never call boys. ;-)
Seriously: Look into babysitting. Parents NEED a night out every now and then, and are willing to pay dearly for it. Recently a couple I sit for regularly asked if another couple could leave their three kids at the house, making five children total. When they returned, they threw money at me. I counted it at home, and then counted it again: $84! For about three and a half hours' worth of work!
Babysitting. Try it. If nothing else, you may discover whether or not you are parent material.

  9. Hi all and thank you for the comments and suggestions.

@ Donna thanks for dropping by, I thought about babysitting, I just need to see if you need references etc to do it.
lol at the parent material - I have three kids and sometimes do wonder if I should not be parent material ;)

  10. Laura,

I've got a lofty goal of $1000/month in extra income. I'm doing most of it through:

    1. Selling old writing on Constant Content.
    2. Selling on eBay.
    3. Picking up extra jobs from clients that I would normally turn down (and giving up my weekends in the process).
    4. Begrudgingly selling very old content on Associated Content (they pay crap and are for US only).

Good luck with the organization business.
