Spending to save

Today in my quest to reduce the money spent on grocery in our house I've purchased some new containers that you can use in the freezer and microwave. I used to use old Chinese takeaway cartons and then I used freezer bags. The Chinese cartons have now had it and as we never have take out anymore I can't replace them. Freezer bags I find annoying to fill and empty. The containers should pay for themselves quite easily over the next few weeks.

Sunday this week will be a big cooking day. I'm aiming to make at least 20 family meals for the freezer. There is nothing better after a long day at work knowing that the dinner is already prepared and all you have to do is add some vegetables. This stops spending on take out!

Today's spending:

£15.98 - Plastic containers

  1. This is such a good idea. Really takes the stress out of part of the 'working day' and makes the menu planning easier.
I have to admit to a couple of unidentified containers in my freezer though !

  2. I'm delighted you've found some inspiration. Making food from scratch is such a rewarding thing to do for you and for thos who partake. And over time making meals regularly increases your creativity.

Lets also take a moment and show some appreciation for the take aways they have been life savers in their time.

I hope you enjoy creating meals as you move towards becoming debt free.

  3. Hi,

Long time reader, first time commenter. Enjoy the meal prep, it can be a fun challenge... we just had McDo for the first time in a month.

And I always used masking tape for labels. Now we just take our chances...
